CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

November 18, 2025

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Sacred Heart Parish,

As we approach Thanksgiving, the following update is provided with ongoing gratitude for your goodness to Sacred Heart.  You will recall that every parish in the Diocese of Springfield was asked to participate in the Beacon of Faith Capital Campaign.  Due to the extraordinary kindness of a member of our parish Finance Council and his family, we were able to make our expected assessment to the diocese in full.  Subsequently all funds the parish has received from your contributions have remained in the parish accounts to help with the necessary capital improvements and ongoing projects.  Therefore, heartfelt thanks: $1,000,000 has been provided to the diocese to fulfill our assessment; $1,190,000 has been donated or pledged to-date solely for our parish.

Sacred Heart Parish is making an investment in the future.  With the approval of Bishop Byrne and the professional assistance of Casella Design Associates, many projects are currently planned and in process.  At the Monsignor Farland Center, conversion of the convent space into updated religious education classrooms and meeting areas continues.  Upgrades require the project to comply further with important Building Codes, including restructuring some of the entrances/exits, energy efficiency, and essential fire detection systems, sprinklers, and alarms.  The Center will feature additional electrical and mechanical upgrades, all necessary for expanded use.  Along with a new accessibility ramp, sidewalks, stairs, handrails and lighting, the interior and exterior of the building will be safer and more accommodating.

Our parish celebrated 150 years last year, and the present church building opened on October 18, 1896, 129 years ago.  Through the years the generosity and goodness of parishioners have sustained this magnificent church.  Sacred Heart is fortunate to have talented musicians and a wonderful music program.  Funds have been set aside for the repair/replacement of the musical instruments when needed.  Other projects funded by your support will include replacement of some damaged wood framing the stained-glass windows, ongoing repointing of the exterior brownstone, particularly on the southwest tower, where there is mortar deterioration.  Further enhancements are necessary, especially a new fire detection system required to meet current fire safety codes.  Scaffolding will soon be erected inside the church to begin this important project.  Exterior parking lot lighting that is more energy efficient and brighter, a helpful security measure, has recently been installed.

With the advice and expertise of our dedicated Parish Finance Council, the parish is committed to good stewardship and the many restoration projects using Capital Campaign and Renovation Fund Savings will allow greater use of the parish buildings and facilities.  Moreover, your ongoing loyalty and generosity to Sacred Heart will ensure that this parish is a spiritual home where all are welcome, enriched, and above all, blessed.

Thanks for being here!

Grateful prayers,

Rev. Msgr. Christopher Connelly
